  • Senior Estimator

Job Description:

Herzog Contracting Corp. is searching for an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team in St. Joseph, MO.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Be able to review proposal plans and specification drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, conduct site visits, and other contents as required.
  • Complete take off materials and quantities for projects being bid to meet proposal deadlines.
  • Must be able to prepare and coordinate construction estimates from start to finish.
  • Have a complete understanding of all aspects of project construction.
  • Be able to communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to retrieve quotations.
  • Responsible for performing cost analysis and market reviews accurately to produce informed decisions.
  • Provide engineering support in planning and development to the Estimating Team.
  • Must be self motivated and able to work in a team environment.
Skills/Competencies:
  • Must possess the ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to strategize, plan and problem solve.
  • Ability to perform with a varied work schedule including early morning, evening, weekend, and some holidays in order to meet demands of the bidding requirements.
  • Ability to travel.
  • At a minimum, must have a working knowledge of Microsoft applications including skills in Microsoft Excel, Project, Word and Outlook.
Experience:
  • 5 to 10 years of increasing responsibility in an estimating department or project management.
  • Must have experience bidding underground utilities within an urban environment.
  • Civil engineering degree a plus.
  • Experience with the use of HCCS Heavy Bid is a plus.



  • Proposal Manager

Description:
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer/Proposal Manager to support the Client Proposal submittal and business development efforts of one of the country's leading companies providing construction, operations, and maintenance services to the commuter rail and rail transit industries.
Responsibilities:

  • Organize and lead the response to Requests For Proposal (RFP) relating to construction, operations, or maintenance of commuter rail and rail transit projects nationwide.
  • Must possess excellent analytical writing, editing, communication and organizational skills, with the ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously.
  • Technical knowledge of the preparation of responsive proposal packages for submission.
  • Ability to organize and lead contributing proposal team members from within and outside the company.
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and proofread proposal packages, to ensure the highest quality submittal.
  • Development of compliant, responsive, integrated and competitive technical responses based on information collected from proposal team and operations staff.
  • Development of graphical layouts for representation of proposal responses.
  • Creation of new content for management, past performance, technical, and staffing sections based on research.
  • Maintenance of the relative corporate databases for re-use of company information inventory.
  • Provide technical, graphics, and proof copy editing supervision and support.
  • Manage the coordination, quality control and production of the final work product, including preparing copies, graphics and the assimilation of all materials into a “Proposal Ready Format” in binders or manuals.
Requirements:
Requirements Include:
  • BA/BS degree in English, Journalism, or Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years technical writing and proposal management experience related to governmental proposal development in an engineering, systems development, or Information Technology environment.
  • Experience authoring responses to statements of work, staffing plans, past performance sections, management plans, and executive summaries.
  • Strong research and interviewing skills.
  • Proven ability to translate complex concepts into a narrative accessible to laypersons.
  • Understanding of industry standards for heavy/civil construction, engineering, project management, and systems development.
  • Extensive experience researching and authoring management, staffing, technical, and past performance response sections for a proposal.
  • PMI Certification a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MS Visio, and appropriate graphics and desktop publishing systems.
  • Ability to work independently, yet function effectively as a member of a team, and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Must be willing to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
  • Must possess a knowledge of heavy/civil construction industry, with commuter rail and transit construction, operations, and maintenance a plus.

  • Design Drafter

Herzog Contracting Corp. is seeking a Design Drafter based in St Joseph, MO Candidate will be responsible for preparing new product design layouts and drawings for parts, weldments, and assemblies, as well as creating electrical wiring drawings and pneumatic schematics. Candidate will work closely with engineers and project managers to develop mechanical designs and drawings for railroad maintenance of way equipment. Must have high school degree or equivalent certificate, college degree or coursework also a plus. Prefer a minimum of 2 years of related drafting/design background preferably in a manufacturing or design environment. AutoCad and Inventor experience a must. Railroad experience is a plus.

  • Production Supervisors

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking two experienced Railcar Repair Shop production supervisors for our facility in St. Joseph, MO. Must have 3 years minimum hands-on production supervisory experience and be very well versed in all aspects of freight car repair. Knowledge of various car types as well as current AAR and FRA rules and regulations is essential.

  • Project Manager

Herzog Contracting Corp, a leader in railroad and rail transit construction and operation, is currently seeking a Project Manager to lead our railroad infrastructure maintenance team's efforts in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Responsibilities include managing the day to day maintenance and inspections of 55 high volume FRA class 3 & 4 track miles, which host passenger and freight. Candidates must be familiar with all FRA regulatory inspection and record keeping requirements pertaining to railroad infrastructure. In addition to daily maintenance, this position is responsible for new track construction and capital improvement programs including; tie, rail, turnout & crossing replacements, undercutting & overseeing bridge repair subcontractor.

Minimum Requirements:
Eight years of progressively responsible track maintenance and construction in an operating railroad environment, including at least four years in supervising or directing the work of others engaged in track maintenance and construction.

Primary responsibility at the Division level, for providing, implementing and administering a quality control/assurance program to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with project plans and specifications as well as the standards and methods specified in site specific project Quality Control Plans. Administer continuous education for Project QC and Operations staff. Review all QC issues with Operations at all stages of construction and with Owners where appropriate. The position will be headquartered at our Corporate Office in St. Joseph, MO.



  • Project Accounting Manager

Qualified applicants should have a minimum of 8 years of accounting experience with a minimum of 3 years experience in management. The responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of payroll and accounts payable. Detailed knowledge in developing and analyzing month end financial statements and job cost / earned value reporting, Applicants must also have a complete understanding of federal and state tax reporting.

A background in construction and knowledge of Prolog are a plus. This position is located in our Denver, CO office and will report directly to the Corporate Project Accounting Manager as well as the onsite Project Manager.

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking field engineers and project engineers for several job sites, including Dallas, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Salt Lake City. Applicants must be able to relocate. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering. Heavy civil construction experience is a must. Duties will vary by location but may include coordinating field operations and subcontractors, RFI's, pricing of changes notices, etc.



  • Equipment Operators

Backhoe operators needed immediately to work for large nationwide contractor. Extensive travel required, must furnish pickup, basic hand tools and need to have mechanical ability. Herzog Contracting is currently seeking experienced railroad equipment operators to operate Herzog's Multi Purpose Machines and various equipment on the CP and CN Rail lines stretching across Canada. Candidate should have previous locomotive operating and mechanical experience including electrical and hydraulic. Extensive travel required.
